Graduation Party Ideas
I've put together my favorite graduation party ideas to share with you. First things first! You'll need to decide where you want to host your party and what type of party you'd like. The most common location is to host your party at home and to have an open house style party. An open house graduation party typically lasts for about 4 to 6 hours.
I love an open house party because guests can come and go as they please and stay for as little or as long as they like. It works out great for those that have other parties to attend on the same day. Guests can stop in for a bit and still make it to other parties.
Here is a list of things you'll need for your graduation party:
Tent - This is extremely important to have in case it rains. Your party will most likely be planned weeks in advance and you won't know what the weather will be like. It's best to be prepared so you're not left out in the rain.
Tables and chairs - These can be rented from the same place you rent your tent from. You can also ask a local church or other organization if they lend them out.
Paper products - You'll need table cloths, plates, napkins, cups, and plasticware. Always have extra on hand so you don't run out.
Decorations - Decorate with your high school colors or your college colors. Use balloons and streamers for an inexpensive way to decorate. Make a picture board with pictures from birth to now. The guests will enjoy seeing old pictures, especially ones from the first day of kindergarten and with old friends.
Food - Since an open house allows guests to come whenever they want during the party hours, you'll want to have food available during the entire party time. Use chafing dishes, warmers, and ice to keep food at the right temperature. Graduation party ideas for your menu are:
Hamburgers Hot Dogs Pig Roast or Pulled Pork Fried or Roasted Chicken Sloppy Joes Deli Trays with Meats and Cheeses for Sandwiches Mostaccioli or Lasagna Serve with various salads like potato salad, pasta salad, taco salad, coleslaw, tossed salad, fruit salad and seafood salad.
For cake ideas, you can have a traditional sheet cake decorated with a congratulatory sentiment or a good luck at college sentiment. The cake can be themed for high school or your future college. Another alternative is a layered cake or cupcakes.
Drinks - Probably the biggest question you'll ponder when planning your graduation party is whether or not you should serve alcohol. Obviously the graduate and their friends are not old enough to drink alcohol so this question can only be decided by you and what fits best for your family. Since adults will be attending the party, it would be nice to have beer and wine available for them. If you plan to serve alcohol, just make sure it's closely monitored so the kids don't get into it. Have plenty of other beverage choices for them like some various soda flavors, bottled water, punch, and juice.
Invitations - Typically the schools offer a choice for graduation announcements. You can use the announcement to send along with your invitations. My favorite graduation party invitations are those that are personalized and also ones that you can add your photo(s) to. It's great to show off those graduation pictures by including your favorites on your party invitation. These are all really perfect:

Fun Stuff - Graduation party ideas that are fun and add some uniqueness to your party are things like renting a photo booth, a cotton candy machine, a popcorn machine, and a slushy machine. You could also set up an ice cream sundae bar or a
candy buffet.
Having games like volleyball, badminton, ladder ball, corn hole, horseshoes, and croquet are all great graduation party ideas too. If your party goes into the evening, you could also have a bonfire. Don't forget the s'mores!
